"DEFENSE WANTED

In International
Consequences
the players must reckon
to reap what they've sown.
We have a defense
against other defenses,
but what's to defend us
against our own?"

My daughter has begged me to get my behind out of the wagon and send her the photos that I took during our visit with her in New York two weeks ago. I pulled myself together tonight and sent them to her. That gave me a reason to look through them once again, of course.
We rested our tired feet in a street restaurant in Greenwich Village one day, it was an Argentinian restaurant, very good food and service and we sat there quite a while.

While we were sitting there this old man caught my eye, because he reminded me of my father during his last years with the walker and the shopping bag. I tried to be discreet and just aimed the camera in his direction without looking straight at him.
When I saw the pictures on my computer I could tell that he had been very much aware of my actions, it made me feel ashamed. He was looking right into the camera. Not in this picture, but in the others I took of him.

We took a detour on our way to Collierville for dinner at our favorite restaurant. I also wanted to get a few more clips from the Banjo picking in the park, this is really the first time in a month that the weather cooperated. The summer heat is rolling in slowly but safely, there is no mistake when you feel that humid air. My wife looks at me in disbelief when I tell her it's getting hot, "I'm freezing" she says and turns off the AC in our car. All right, she was born here, I wasn't.

We drove south into Mississippi, and chose a road that goes through rural areas.

I like these silos, for some odd reason. I believe I saw a movie in my youth, where the action took place in surroundings like these. Whatever, I like them.

I always look for old empty houses and barns when we are out driving. There is an air of mystery around them.

These old farmhouses don't look dead to me, rather hibernating, ready to enter the world again in some distant future, when the world will once again be like they want it to be.

The friendly police greeted us welcome back to Tennessee and Collierville, ready to assist if we were to encounter a malfunction in our speedometer.

A bit later, on the way home. Nice ride!

I don't know, just the sun behind a small cloud and some lamp posts, I liked the colors.

Frail and helpless and quite ugly still.
A Cardinal bird. I happened to notice it today, deep inside the bamboo hedge. I didn't dare take away any leaves and the camera didn't focus where I wanted it to.
It is in a precarious spot, the neighbor's dog apparently noticed it too, it is just barely out of reach for him.

The river is almost back to normal.

This image is from March 28.

The same area today.

I was able to get to my favorite spot again.

The river has deposited tons of sand, last time I was here I had to balance from stone to stone, now it's almost like a beach.

Notice the ring on the tree, that's where the level was a couple of weeks ago.

Wednesday night in the neighborhood, a movie at Malco, "Paradiso".

And a Backyard Burger or a chicken sandwich, perhaps.

A street light in the foregound, outside the picture flared into the photo, making it look like a flame is engulfing the top of the building

You gotta go when you gotta go.
The lady is in her seventies today, I hope she'll forgive me for my indiscretion.
