Down by the Riverside again

Crossing the bridge over Wolf River on our way to Harbor Town.

I wanted to go down to the river today. I was curious to see how much it had risen since the last time I was down there. My wife was driving as usual, she seems to enjoy my little excursions, too. If not, it is an act of love on her party. I enjoy her company, anyway

The water is high, alright. I'd say this far it is about ten feet higher than last time, maybe even twelve. The trees, that normally stand some fifteen feet away from the river are standing way out in water now.

A seagull picking whatever edibles, that the river had left on the new shore.

Another foot higher and the water will cover the whole field where I was standing, taking this image. Then it will really look impressive. All neighborhoods down here are standing on much higher grounds and they are not likely to be flooded even if the river decides to throw its worst at Memphis. But the levees on the Arkansas side are lower and they are probably in for a huge and lasting flooding within the next few days.

A little bit further downstream I saw this hardy couple defy the chilly winds and the strong current. I can understand the thrill in getting that close to the elements. They seemed to know what they were doing.

One last picture. If you click on it, you can see a short movie clip from the river. The wind blew into the microphone and I had a hard time keeping it focused, for some reason.
