It's fall, although the thermometer tells me differently. But a look at the bright blue sky confirms that we are getting dry, clear air finally. Normally there's a haze that makes the sky look more gray than blue during summer.

I looked at the birdhouses while I was out watering the plants this morning. Lots of vacancies. To humble me, the birds rejected my masterpieces this summer. Maybe the wood is to fresh for the birds to like it, I believe they are sensitive to what material you use.

If that is the case, I wouldn't expect any tenants in this one. It's made from Bondo. Maybe it will shelter some weary rodent during winter..I made the hole way too big and probably inviting to pests.

This is what the finches preferred, the gutter. We had birds nesting there from early May till the end of July, at least three families. It's right above our backyard patio, it didn't seem to bother them.

Another empty "nest", if you will, an empty shell, a cocoon that brought forth a Cicada. We weren't invaded by them this summer, but we had a few. One of them sat next to the backyard door and made you jump, every time you went outside. It was incredibly loud, almost like some electric buzzing device.
