Space Shuttle launch scrubbed again.
This illustrates how far away we are from the Star Trek vision. The biggest hurdle is not malfunctioning sensors or other components really.
We need a totally different propulsion system. If we had "limitless" amounts of "fuel" the need for these neck breaking accelerations wouldn't exist anymore. We could climb slowly through the atmosphere and accelerate no harder than a jet plane taking off, for example. Equally, the re-entry into the atmosphere could be as gentle as we want it, no need for heat shields.
The key to future space travel is indeed a different propulsion system.
Who will invent the anti gravity generator? That would be a very nice gadget.

My wife had to work a few hours today and since it has been a warm day, summer in December!, I drove down Poplar to Poplar Plaza for a cup of coffee.
I bought my small Decaf and a pumpkin loaf and sat down outside in this youthful environment

I shared my loaf with a sparrow or finch, can't tell them apart. If he has a facial expression and if I interpret it correctly, this was not his favorite lunch.

I sat for a while and enjoyed the company until the bird took off to a table with better service. I felt a bit like a peeping Tom, taking pictures of unaware people, but this picture conveys so much of that age, that I dimly remember sometimes!, so full of promises and some scary stuff, too, almost grownup, one foot still in childhood, hopefully.

So with my lunch guest gone I took my cup of Decaf with me and drove to Stepford..eh..Chickasaw Garden, sorry!
It is a very nice area, it has the most impressive houses in Memphis,I believe. It might lack a bit of real genuine feel, although my envy might color my judgment somewhat..

All right, very pleasant neighborhood, I admit. There is a fairly big pond / lake in the middle of the area, I couldn't find a good place to park, so you have to trust me on that one.

I turned back to meet my wife after work and stopped by Pink Palace.
They are showing a Christmas movie for the kids right now.
I never caught what they are pointing at, dang!

My wife insisted she knew exactly where I needed to go to take more pictures, so we drove to Cordova. It used to be a small town around the railroad station, it's hard to find that spot anymore. New neighborhoods everywhere, before too long it won't be possible to tell where Memphis ends and Cordova begins.
Here is the railroad station in Cordova, anyway.

..and the original Grocery store, across the street.

Now, I am a trusting individual, but now that I actually tell this to somebody else, could this have been my wife's real motive for going here?? A two story building, a store jam packed with Christmas ornaments? Could it?

She disappeared inside and was gone for a very long time. I found this apparition hanging from a tree in that front yard. I had plenty of time to figure out how to catch it on film.

I found my wife and also this Nativity Scene inside the store.

Germantown

Fairly new building; some 20 years, perhaps (Germantown, TN).

Nature's own Christmas Ornaments. What tree is it?
