I sat for a very long time, taking in the photos, that Lisabal has added recently. This is probably what I like most about SU; to "travel" to other parts of our fantastic planet thanks to great stumblers as Lisabal.

Culturalove offers glimpses of her home country from a bit different and intriguing perspective. I can only hope that she will give us more of this in both images and writing.

SETI

Do you feel like giving SETI a hand? ( Or, rather, a Megabyte).
"Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence" has expanded, more data is downloaded than ever before. If you have a young, vigorous computer, you can download a small program that runs in the background or when your computer is idle, it's up to you. The program acts like a Screensaver, too.
I participated for a year or two, but my computer is too feeble to handle the software nowadays.

It has been an unreal day. It was 67 degrees(19 C) around noon and I had to throw my jacket in the back seat and roll my window down. It doesn't feel right, it is New Year's Eve.
Inspired and lonely - my wife had to replace a coworker, who came down with "diffuse symptoms" and regretfully saw herself unable to work. This poor soul seems to be hit by ailments on holidays chiefly, most unfortunate - I drove to the Botanic Garden. That was a mistake, nothing there really, it is a great place during summer, but we have these frostbites that keep us from growing many evergreens. Only a few days, but enough to kill any tropical bushes or flowers.
I took a picture of the fountain anyway.

An oak tree in the Botanic garden has this figure on its trunk, it resembles an Armadillo a bit.

The year is coming to an end and it is perhaps time to think about just time. I did that today over a heap of leaves that I hadn't brought myself to bag yet. It has been a good year in many ways with a few bumps and hurdles, but mostly good. We, my wife and I, actually managed to realize a few plans, "acting" instead of "reacting", as I heard over and over in seminars way back in another life, almost. But there lies a bit of truth in the worn phrase. The kids are grown up, more or less, the youngest is still in college, but he is learning to stand on his feet, more and more. So we have been able to do a couple of things together, things that We wanted to do. It was fun.

One heap of leaves bagged, two more to go.
I couldn't believe how cold and damp those once vibrant and alive leaves were, I had to stop midway and go inside and put my hands under hot tap water to regain circulation. It hurt..just as it did when I stepped through the sea ice as a ten year old and after I managed to get up had to run home, not that far, but my skin was purple when I got inside. Fond memories..
I felt embarrassed..it was not THAT cold today. And the sun was shining.

I took a break and inspected the equipment in the backyard. The grill has served us since 1999. It's not fancy, but I like it. The handle is bitten by the weather.

And the grid could certainly use some serious cleaning, too.

So I lifted my eyes instead. Now that the leaves are gone, it's easy to see the birds' nests in our neighbors' trees.

This nest belongs to a squirrel family. It has been there as long as we have lived here. It grows a bit every year. Normally I see at least two or three squirrels at any time in the backyard, I guess I scared them off by being out there for some time.

A few stubborn roses refuse to give up. I appreciate them more now, than when everything else was blooming. They are hardy indeed, they survived the drought that we had this summer, they have had a few frosty nights as well.

I found it hard to believe that nobody had written a review about this stumbler.
There are many, many useful links here, if you, like me, are concerned about our planet. And other interesting subjects, too!

Kitchen window.

A look forward some four, five months brings colors and light as above; Camp Marymount, just outside Nashville, in May.
